FindAccounts.biz will provide a one-stop shop for those looking for a new or replacement accounting system and will also help users to get the most out of their existing software. The site is more than just a list of accounting software. It includes directories of related resources, including training courses and consultants that service each of the products. You can search in a number of ways including by product, company name, number of users or features required. The directory of consultants will be developed to include an extensive listing by product and by area and also by their related resources.

Pam Chilman of Australian Management Control, the company behind the new site, explains the rationale behind the FindAccounts initiative: “After having trained on accounting systems for 10 years, I noticed that there were very few places you could access useful information and resources about more than one accounting system. There are lots of great products out there and having dealt with a number of them over the years I found that each one has its strengths (and weaknesses).

“Accounting software is more than just the box off the shelf. The setup, training and ongoing support from consultants is vital to the ongoing success and optimisation of the product you select,” she said. “Software is only as good as the user and the output. It is all very well to have an easy to use product, but if you can’t get out the reports you need or can’t streamline processes then it is a waste of time. It is a commitment to take on a new product and those who do so with a ‘coach’ will reap the benefits.”

She considers that, with the first year of GST behind them, users are now working on refining their procedures to get more out of their existing systems and will be starting to look for the sort of information and resources available on the FindAccounts site. The fact that the site is independent of software suppliers is a plus, as is the listing of consultants.
